Except for a special test on Wednesday, October 24, at 4:05 PM, the siren will be tested on the first Wednesday of every month at 4:05 PM. In the unlikely event that you hear it at any other time while in Spring Valley or on the American University campus, there is a chemical emergency. According to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the following steps need to be taken immediately upon hearing the emergency siren:
1) Go inside QUICKLY
2) Close all windows and doors, and turn off all ventilations systems (air conditioning or heating)
